Stroke Care in Emergency Medicine Award

The acute treatment of stroke, beginning in the pre-hospital phase and the emergency department, is an essential part of stroke care and an integral link in the Chain of Recovery. The Stroke Care in Emergency Medicine Award encourages investigators to undertake or continue research in the emergent phase of acute stroke treatment and submit an abstract to the International Stroke Conference.

Deadline

  • The deadline for abstract submission is Tuesday, August 20, 2024, 11:59 PM CT.

Criteria

The applicant must meet the following criteria to be considered for this award:

  • Researchers of any level are invited to apply; they must be an AHA/ASA member.
  • The research should be applicable to the emergency care of stroke including ischemic stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage, and subarachnoid hemorrhage. The abstract must be based on original research.
  • The candidate must submit an abstract in the Cerebrovascular Systems of Care category for the International Stroke Conference 2025 in accordance with the rules and regulations for submitting AHA abstracts.
  • The highest scoring primary original research abstract in the Cerebrovascular Systems of Care category who applies for the award wins.
  • An individual may apply for only one award to be presented at the International Stroke Conference 2025.
  • Previous winners of this award are not eligible to re-enter the competition in subsequent years.
  • Only one abstract per candidate will be considered. The applicant should be the first/presenting author.
  • There is no citizenship requirement for this award.
  • Women and under-represented groups are encouraged to apply.

The candidate must submit an abstract in the Cerebrovascular Systems of Care category to the International Stroke Conference 2025 indicating the abstract is to be considered for the Stroke Care in Emergency Medicine Award. The abstract deadline is Tuesday, August 20, 2024, 11:59 PM CT.

  • $1,500 cash award
  • Airfare (coach) and hotel expenses for one night for attendance at the International Stroke Conference 2025
