Stroke Basic Science Award


Stroke basic science research is an essential element of improving the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of stroke. The Stroke Basic Science Award investigators to undertake or continue basic science research in the field of cerebrovascular disease and to submit an abstract to the International Stroke Conference. The research must be considered basic or translational science, and it must be laboratory-based.

Deadline

  • Abstracts must be submitted by Tuesday, August 20, 2024, 11:59 PM CDT.

Criteria

The applicant must meet the following criteria to be considered for this award:

  • Researchers of any level are invited to apply; they must be an AHA/ASA member.
  • The research must be considered basic or translational science and it must be laboratory-based.
  • The candidate must submit an abstract for the International Stroke Conference 2025 in accordance with the rules and regulations for submitting AHA abstracts.
  • The Stroke Basic Science Award will be given to the applicant with the highest scoring abstract describing original basic science research.
  • An individual may apply for only one award to be presented at the International Stroke Conference 2025.
  • Previous winners of this award are not eligible to re-enter the competition in subsequent years.
  • Only one abstract per candidate will be considered. The applicant should be the first/presenting author.
  • There is no citizenship requirement for this award.
  • Women and under-represented groups are encouraged to apply.

How To Apply / Required Documents

The candidate must submit an abstract that describes original basic science research to the International Stroke Conference 2025 indicating the abstract is to be considered for the Stroke Basic Science Award. The abstract deadline is Tuesday, August 20, 2024, 11:59 PM CT.

Award

  • Complimentary conference registration
  • $1,500 cash award
  • Airfare (coach) and hotel expenses for one night for attendance at the International Stroke Conference 2025
