Methodologies and Policies from the ACC/AHA Joint Committee on Practice Guidelines

On behalf of the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology, we are pleased to make public our latest methodologies and policies for the development of clinical practice guidelines. For over 40 years, the two organizations have partnered to develop these guidelines. Our commitment to ensuring high quality care for patients with cardiovascular disease remains the driving force behind our efforts.

Our guideline development methodologies have evolved over the years as we learned first-hand the complexities of merging research findings, scientific methodologies, and clinical judgment to create the best possible recommendations at the point of care. The web publication of the 2025 Methodology Manual and Policies of the ACC/AHA Joint Committee on Clinical Practice Guidelines represents our endeavor to make our process transparent to anyone who wishes to understand it.
