Editor's Pick | Evaluating Value Series

What is value? It is generally defined as quality over costs – but how do we define “quality” and “costs,” and how does this change when considered from different stakeholder perspectives?

Circulation: Cardiovascular Quality and Outcomes  is excited to support its ongoing series, called Evaluating Value. Led by our Deputy Editor, Dr. Michael Ho, our goal for this series is to engage with our scientific and healthcare delivery community and to advance our knowledge about value in cardiovascular medicine.

This Month’s Editor’s Pick:
Thirty-Day Readmission Risk Model for Older Adults Hospitalized With Acute Myocardial Infarction: The SILVER-AMI Study
John Dodson et al

Editor’s Perspective:
Toward Patient-Centered Healthcare Value

Editor comments:
“Their study reinforces the importance of incorporating patient-centered measures into the assessment of healthcare outcomes, but also highlights the opportunities to identify other patient-centered factors (e.g., social determinants of health) that impact healthcare value.”

Circ CQO’s Evaluating Value series

We encourage you to submit your best work on this topic to the journal. This series features articles of all types that can range from assessing the impact of various interventions, treatments, guidelines, or policies, to developing new methods of measuring value or engaging in multiple stakeholder perspectives on value. We are interested in articles that focus on quality and costs considered broadly (that is, not just mortality or dollars).  With this series, and with your help, we hope to accelerate our understanding of this concept and facilitate the implementation of important findings into care delivery.

For more information, and for a list of papers published so far in this series, please visit our Evaluating Value series home page.

If you have any questions about the appropriateness of your paper for this series, send inquiries to the editorial office.
