DISTAL
Endovascular therapy plus best medical treatment versus best medical treatment alone for medium distal vessel occlusion stroke: The DISTAL Trial
Marios Psychogios | University Hospital Basel, Basel, Switzerland
RESULTS: Endovascular treatment plus best medical treatment may not provide additional benefits over best medical treatment alone for people with occlusion of medium or distal vessels.
ESCAPE-MeVO
Endovascular treatment to improve outcomes for medium vessel occlusions: The ESCAPE-MeVO trial
Mayank Goyal | University of Calgary, Calgary, Alberta, Canada
RESULTS: The addition of EVT to best medical management did not improve clinical outcomes in those with acute ischemic stroke caused by MeVO.
DISCOUNT
Mechanical Thrombectomy in Acute Ischemic Stroke Related to a Distal Arterial Occlusion: Interim Analysis of the DISCOUNT Randomized Controlled Trial
Frederic Clarencon, Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital, Paris, France
RESULTS: Mechanical Thrombectomy for distal arterial occlusions may not provide a clinical benefit and carries a higher risk of bleeding complications, suggesting that best medical treatment alone remains the preferred treatment in these cases.
Telomere Length and Brain Health
Leukocyte Telomere Length as a Predictor of Age-Related Brain Diseases: Evidence from the UK Biobank
Tamara Kimball | Boston Mass General, Boston, Massachusetts
TRANSPORT2
TRANScranial direct current stimulation for POst-stroke motor Recovery - a phase II sTudy - Main Results
Wayne Feng, Duke University School of Medicine, Chapel Hill, North Carolina
RESULTS: The tDCS intervention, regardless of dosage (sham, 2 mA, or 4 mA), did not significantly amplify the effects of CIMT on motor recovery in patients post-stroke, highlighting the need for future trials to explore higher doses.
C3FIT
Coordinated, Collaborative, Comprehensive, Family-based, Integrated, Technology-enabled Post-Stroke Care
Leann Long, Wake Forest School of Medicine, Winston Salem, North Carolina
RESULTS: CSC+ISPU compared to CSC alone improved post-stroke risk factors, with the greatest effects observed in diet, BP, and LDL-C. However, these improvements did not result in better functional outcomes or health related quality of life.
PRESTIGE-AF
Effects of Direct Oral Anticoagulants Versus No Anticoagulation In the Prevention of Stroke in Intracerebral Haemorrhage Survivors with Atrial Fibrillation (PRESTIGE-AF) Trial
Roland Veltkamp | Imperial College London, London, UK
RESULTS: DOACs effectively reduced ischemic stroke risk in patients with AF and prior ICH, but they may have increased the risk of recurrent ICH, making the net clinical benefit uncertain.
ANGEL-TNK
Intra-arterial Tenecteplase thrombolysis for acute LVO after successful mechanical thrombectomy recanalization (ANGEL-TNK) — A Multicenter, Prospective, Randomized, Open-label, Blinded End-point Trial
Xiaochuan Huo | Beijing Anzhen Hospital, Bejing, China
RESULTS: Intra-arterial tenecteplase following successful endovascular therapy improved the chances of achieving an excellent neurological outcome defined by the modified Rankin scale of 0-1 at 90 days compared to standard medical management. The 90-day mortality rate and the rate of symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage at 48 hours were comparable between groups.
HOPE
Treatment with intravenous alteplase in ischemic stroke patients with onset time between 4.5 and 24 hours
Min Lou, The Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University, School of Medicine, Hangzhou, China
RESULTS: The administration of intravenous alteplase between 4.5 and 24 hours after AIS onset in patients with salvageable tissue based on perfusion imaging significantly increased the likelihood of non-disabled functional outcome compared to standard medical treatment. The increased risk of intracerebral hemorrhage in the alteplase group did not result in higher mortality risk.
