Gilles Paradis is a professor in the Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Occupational Health (EBOH), School of Population and Global Health at McGill University. He chaired the McGill Department of EBOH from 2012 to 2020. He was the founding scientific director of the Quebec Population Health Research Network (2001-13) and editor-in-chief of the Canadian Journal of Public Health (2007-2013). He has contributed to the training of over 100 PhD and post-doctoral fellows at McGill and as director of the Quebec Research Training Program in Public Health (2003-2016). He chaired the Advisory Board of the Institute for Population and Public Health of the Canadian Institutes for Health Research (CIHR, 2007- 2009). He currently chairs the International Society for Cardiovascular Disease Epidemiology and Prevention. He completed a MD at Université de Montréal (1980), a specialty training in Public Health and Preventive Medicine and MSc in Epidemiology at McGill (1987) and a two-year fellowship at the Center for Disease Prevention Research of Stanford University (1989). He previously held a CIHR Applied Public Health Research Chair in chronic diseases prevention (2008-13). His research includes community-based CVD prevention programs in urban and rural low-income populations and in Indigenous Communities, the epidemiology of chronic diseases risk factors particularly in children and adolescents and the organization and prevention capacity of the public health system in Canada. He is an elected member of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences.
