2024 William J. Rashkind Memorial Lecture - Georges Bordage, MD, MSc, PhD
Dr. Georges Bordage, MD, MSc, (biometry-medical informatics), PhD (educational psychology), is a professor emeritus in the Department of Medical Education, College of Medicine, University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC).
He is the recipient of four honorary doctoral degrees in medicine and science from the universities of Sherbrooke, Moncton, Louvain (Belgium) and Laval, and was a visiting professor at universities in Bern, Tokyo, and British Columbia.
Dr. Bordage taught courses in scholarship and current issues in health professions education, research design and grant writing, and scientific writing.
He was the founding director of a graduate degree program in health professions education at Laval University (a first in the French-speaking world) and the director of graduate studies in the Department of Medical Education at UIC.
His research includes the study of clinical reasoning, the assessment of clinical decision-making (the “key features” approach first developed for the Medical Council of Canada in the early 90’s and now used worldwide), the hypothesis-driven approach to teaching and assessing the physical exam, and scientific writing.
He’s had 38 grants; 181 journal articles; 28 book chapters and monographs; 556 national and international presentations; and 185 educational workshops.
He is the recipient of multiple awards, including the John P. Hubbard Award from the National Board of Medical Examiners; Abraham Flexner Award of the American Association of Medical Colleges; American Education Research Association Distinguished Career Award; and the Dr. Louis Levasseur Distinguished Service Award from the Medical Council of Canada.
The UIC College of Medicine honored him with an annual lecture in his name and an endowed professorship, the Dr. Georges Bordage Endowed Professorship in Medical Education.
