PAD Educational Resources

Peripheral artery disease, or PAD, is a narrowing of the peripheral arteries that carries blood away from the heart to other parts of the body.

Affecting over 10 million adults in the United States, PAD is a leading cause of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality and limb amputations, especially among those 65+ and high-risk groups such as Black, Hispanic/Latino, and southern/rural communities. Black adults are twice as likely to have PAD compared to non-Hispanic White adults. The American Heart Association's Non-Traumatic Amputation Heat Map highlights areas that need more education and awareness to reduce PAD complications. Learn more about PAD, how to spread awareness, and support initiatives to improve education and prevention in high-risk communities.
