Non-Traumatic Lower Extremity Amputations by Congressional District “Heat Map”
The interactive map below illustrates lower limb amputations per 100,000 Medicare beneficiaries per year, by state and by Congressional district.
The three tabs across the top enable the user to see national representations, state representations, and data in fully accessible table format, including highest to lowest rate rankings by district. The user may view rates for 2017 or 2018 by accessing the “Reporting Year” drop down.
This animation shows the number of people in each State who had a lower extremity amputation within one year of diagnosis with Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD). The total numbers of people diagnosed with PAD in each State were calculated, and these people were then followed for one year to determine how many underwent lower extremity amputation. The animation shows how amputation rates have decreased across the country over the last two decades.
