Published: April 08, 2021
- Perioperative stroke is a complication in patients who undergo non-cardiac and non-neurologic surgery.
- This scientific statement focuses on the cerebrovascular complications of non-cardiac surgery and summarizes the current literature concerning: the preoperative neurologic risk stratification and management of patients prior to undergoing non-cardiac, non-neurologic surgery; intraoperative strategies to mitigate the risk of stroke; and the identification and treatment of patients who experience a perioperative stroke.
- Strategies for preoperative stroke prevention, intraoperative management to reduce risk of stroke along with identification and treatment of perioperative stroke are discussed in this paper.
