Co-funded Research


The American Heart/Stroke Association funds investigator-initiated career development and knowledge discovery projects through its research programs. We are also committed to identifying and supporting specific science areas deemed critical to achieving our mission and strategic objectives. The association has established partnerships with various organizations to fund focused research programs. The American Heart Association has also provided research administration services to the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation, and the Cardiovascular Medical Research & Education Fund (CMREF).

AHA/CHF Congenital Heart Defect Research

With shared priorities and interests in congenital heart defects, The AHA and The Children’s Heart Foundation (CHF) together have funded $22.5 million to date of research. Investigators awarded funding have been actively conducting basic, clinical, population or translational research.

 

Barth Syndrome Foundation

Barth Syndrome Foundation Logo - heart with a swirl around itThis funding supports predoctoral and postdoctoral fellows working on innovative basic, clinical, or translational research relevant to the etiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis, treatment, epidemiology, and/or prevention of Barth Syndrome.

AHA/ASA/ABF Lawrence M. Brass, M.D. Stroke Research Award

Logo - American Brain Foundation - Circles grouped togetherThe American Heart Association and American Brain Foundation provide funding for postdoctoral trainees embarking on careers in clinical neurology, stroke and neurocritical care. Award recipients receive supportive mentorship and conduct introductory pilot studies that will guide future strategies for reducing cardiovascular and/or cerebrovascular disease.

California Walnut Commission

AHA/Enduring Hearts Research Award

The Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research (FAER)

FAER and the AHA work together to fund early career anesthesiologists conducting research related to cardiovascular disease.
