Chiadi E. Ndumele, MD, PhD, FAHA

It is an exciting time to be involved with the work of the Council on Lifestyle and Cardiometabolic Health! The work of our council focuses on cardiometabolic risk factors such as obesity, diabetes and dyslipidemias, as well as on health behaviors such as nutrition, physical activity, sleep, and substance abuse that contribute to risk factors and the development of cardiovascular disease.

Recent work makes clear how relevant the work of this council is to modern-day trends in cardiovascular disease. Our subcommittees address most of the components of Life’s Essential 8, the American Heart Association’s paradigm for describing and motivating ideal cardiovascular health. Additionally, the work of our council is central to the construct of Cardiovascular-Kidney-Metabolic Health (CKM health), reflecting the close interconnections among metabolic risk factors like obesity and diabetes, chronic kidney disease and the cardiovascular system. CKM health is a key determinant of premature morbidity and mortality, and a major driver of cardiovascular disparities in the population.

We welcome volunteers to participate in the Lifestyle and Cardiometabolic Health Council, contributing your energy and expertise to advancing the work of our Council and the AHA. Join us in advancing science in the fields of lifestyle and cardiometabolic health by contributing to cutting-edge Scientific Statements and Science Advisories. Participate in disseminating knowledge by developing proposals for stimulating seminars at Scientific Sessions. Engage with leaders and rising stars in the field, building your professional network. Help to move conversations forward on key topics in lifestyle and cardiometabolic health, ranging from mechanistic insights to clinical approaches, to equity and real-world implementation. Apply for scholarships and awards, many geared towards early career members, to support your academic career development.

We are eager for your energy, ideas and involvement! Fill out the Volunteer Form to join the exciting work of our Council.
