PharmD & PhD Candidate in Clinical Pharmacy & Translational Sciences
Ana Lopez Medina (PharmD’22) completed her undergraduate courses at University of Havana in 2011. After graduation, Ana started to work in an electrophysiology lab at the Institute of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery in Havana. For four years, Ana worked as First Level Researcher (first level in scientific scale in Cuba), studying biophysics of ionic channels in cardiac cells. In 2015, Ana moved to the US where she worked in an outpatient clinic as a Clinical Research Coordinator. In that position, she worked directly conducting clinical trials in Hispanic/Latinos patients in compliance with the FDA guidelines. In 2018, Ana enrolled in the PharmD program at University of Michigan and a year later she started the dual PharmD/PhD program in Clinical Pharmacy and Translational Science. During that time, Ana has worked to promote the health of the Hispanic/Latino population in her community. Ana participated in the 2019 Spanish Immersion Internship at CVS in Detroit. Under mentoring of Dr. Jasmine Luzum, Ana is currently working on a variety of projects in Cardiovascular Translational research, which have already resulted in a published letter to the editor and a manuscript. Ana’s long-term goal is to become an independent scientist to improve pharmacologic outcomes and safety in patients with cardiovascular disease, specifically for Hispanic population.
