2023–2024 NHLCC Scholar: Roberto Garcia

ROBERTO GARCIARoberto Garcia
MD
Rush Medical College

Roberto Garcia was born and raised in Santa Rosa, California, where he developed a deep appreciation for the natural beauty and the close-knit community that smaller cities offer. As the son of two proud Latino doctors, he was profoundly influenced by their dedication to medicine and their commitment to staying connected to their roots. Roberto pursued his undergraduate studies at the University of San Diego, where he majored in biology with a minor in chemistry and biomedical ethics. A highlight of his time there was participating in Medical Brigades trips to Ghana and Panama, experiences that broadened his perspective on diverse cultures and global healthcare practices. Now in his second year at RUSH Medical College, Roberto serves as the Vice President of Mentorship for the LMSA chapter and the Director of HR for the Cardiometabolic Health Initiative (CHI), a student-led organization that provides comprehensive cardiometabolic health screenings to food-insecure populations across Chicago. Many of the patients served by CHI are recent immigrants from South America, and Roberto is honored by the trust they place in him and his team. Looking ahead, Roberto is eager to blend his passion for preventative cardiology with his cultural identity, aiming to make a meaningful impact on the lives of his patients and the communities he serves.
