Jean Gabriel is a second-year graduate student at the University of Florida’s Department of Pharmacotherapy and Translational Research. Originally from Guayama, Puerto Rico, his academic career began at the University of Puerto Rico at Cayey where he completed his pharmacy pre-requisite courses and developed an interest in organic chemistry research. Following this, he completed his Pharm.D. at the University of Florida’s College of Pharmacy. Throughout pharmacy school Jean served as a Student Ambassador, where he focused his efforts in supporting and advising prospective Hispanic students through the pharmacy school application/admission process. It was during this time that he became involved in research under the tutelage of Dr. Larisa Cavallari and was introduced to the field of cardiovascular pharmacogenomics. Jean’s current research work focuses on assessing genetic and environmental factors impacting patient’s response to antiplatelet medications. Through this work, he hopes to improve cardiovascular outcomes among patients who’ve underwent percutaneous coronary intervention.
