Dr. Ronglih Liao is a Professor of Medicine and co-Director of Stanford Cardiac Amyloid Center. The scientific mission of Dr. Liao’s laboratory has been to elucidate the key mechanisms underlying the transition from a healthy to a failing heart, and to reverse this deleterious process. This has involved using functional genomic, proteomic, and metabolomic approaches to investigate genes of interest in isolated cardiomyocytes, isolated hearts, and whole animals. Her lab has made critical contributions to the understanding of the molecule mechanisms that underlie the development of amyloid cardiomyopathy as well as the regulation of cardiac repair and function in ischemic, dilated, and idiopathic cardiomyopathy. In addition to her scientific pursuit, she has been devoted to mentoring/promoting the next generation of investigators including underrepresented and female scientists and in disseminating scientific knowledge to the larger research community. In 2019, Dr. Liao received the American Heart Association’s Genomic and Precision Medicine Mentoring Award. She has also presented the 2020 Thomas Smith Memorial Lecture and was honored with a Council on Basic Cardiovascular Sciences Distinguished Achievement Award in 2021.
