Exploring Supraventricular Tachycardia
What is Supraventricular Tachycardia (SVT)?
SVT is a fast heart rate, greater than 100 beats per minute or more, which starts in the atria, the upper chambers of the heart. The electrical signals occur abnormally and speed up the heart rate. The rapidly beating heart prevents the heart chambers from filling completely between contractions (beats), which may compromise blood flow to the body. Paroxysmal SVT (PSVT) means that the abnormality may come and go over minutes or days.
