Published: January 26, 2009
- Linoleic acid (LA) is the primary dietary omega-6 PUFA, which cannot be synthesized by humans, however firm minimum daily requirements have not been established for healthy adults. LA is a precursor for arachadonic acid (AA).
- There is an ongoing debate about the proper level in the diet for omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) and some groups have recommended substantial reductions, despite a large body of scientific literature suggesting that high intakes are associated with reduced risk of cardiovascular disease.
