Joanna is a first-generation college student, currently pursuing a Master of Nursing degree at UIC. The proud eldest daughter of two Mexican American immigrants, Joanna aspires to one day be a nurse practitioner and is specifically interested in working with underserved communities. Health disparities are prevalent amongst disadvantaged communities, which is something Joanna finds very unjust. Joanna finds this opportunity with AHA very exciting and motivating, as it reminds her that other people want to see the same changes. When not studying, Joanna enjoys working out and exploring new restaurants around Chicago, her hometown.
