Abstract Guidelines

2020 Special Circumstances for COVID-19*

Due to COVID-19, the American Heart Association is revising its abstract policy to accommodate participants.

  • Abstract presenters affected by COVID-19 can continue to participate in the physical poster presentation, ePosters (can include audio/video options for presentation) and publication if they are unable to travel to the meeting.
  • Abstract refunds will be considered for the following reasons if the individuals does not intend on participating in virtual, ePoster or publication. Must be received via email prior to the published withdraw date.
    • For individuals who are unable to travel due to government travel bans. For example, countries banned from entering the US or banned by their country from traveling abroad.
    • Full refunds for individuals affected by a natural disaster.
    • Full refunds for individuals that have a death in their immediate family, medical diagnosis resulting in the inability to travel, or visa not issued.

*In effect through June 30, 2020.

  • Abstract submitters must have a username and password on Professional Heart Daily to complete their abstract submission when submitting to any AHA scientific meeting.

Awards Submissions

Applications for these awards may be made by submitting abstracts for presentation at BCVS 2020 Scientific Sessions. NOTE: Applications are accepted through April 8, 2020 at 11:59pm CST.

Outstanding Early Career Investigator Award
This award recognizes up to three finalists who will be selected based on the originality, quality and impact of the work presented in their abstract and curriculum vitae.

Early Career Travel Award
Up to twenty competitive awards of $500 each will be presented to qualified new investigators; awardees will be selected based on the originality, quality, and the impact of the work presented in the abstracts.

Cardiovascular Outreach Award
The purpose of this award is to encourage US minority early career investigators and students to participate in the BCVS 2020 Scientific Sessions.

Early Career Poster Competition
The purpose of this competition is to encourage new investigators to participate in the Basic Cardiovascular Sciences Conference 2020 Scientific Sessions.
