3CPR Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Travel Stipend

To qualify for this award, you must meet the following deadline:

The Council on Cardiopulmonary, Critical Care, Perioperative and Resuscitation (3CPR) is pleased to support the efforts of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) chiefs, educators and other non-physician EMS leadership and encourage participation in the Resuscitation Science Symposium (ReSS). The $1,000 provide travel stipend to ReSS where resuscitation clinicians and researchers can participate in lively discussion on recent advances related to treating cardiopulmonary arrest and life-threatening traumatic injury.

Recipients will also receive complimentary registration to the Symposium, an invitation to the 3CPR Council Reception, and a one-year General Professional Membership to the 3CPR Council.

Applicant Eligibility

  • Applicants must represent EMS personnel, by meeting the following three criteria: (1) applicant must be a full-time employee of an EMS entity, as noted in the application form and confirmed in the letter of recommendation, (2) applicant must not hold an MD or DO degree, (3) applicant must hold appropriate EMS credentials, at either EMT or paramedic level.
  • Through the brief personal statement, CV and letter of recommendation, the applicant should demonstrate prior and current interest/commitment to resuscitation care programs and/or CPR training. This can include (but is not limited to) being an active BLS or ACLS instructor, managing resuscitation quality assurance for an EMS entity, or participating in prior or current resuscitation research projects.
  • As the goal of this travel stipend is to encourage new attendees to attend the Resuscitation Science Symposium (ReSS), applicants who have never the symposium before are particularly encouraged to apply
  • Winners are not eligible to apply in subsequent years.
  • There are no citizenship requirements.

Application Criteria

  • Each applicant for council-sponsored awards, regardless of award category, is eligible to receive only one financial award per meeting per year. (For example, an Early Career Investigator Award finalist will not be eligible to receive a travel stipend for the same meeting.)
  • Notwithstanding the above, the Association’s officers have the discretion to determine eligibility for the award in extraordinary circumstances when there is an issue relating to policy, positions or other potentially controversial issues relating to the positioning or perception of the Association.

Application will be judged by a panel of volunteers from the 3CPR council. Criteria will include:

Applications will be judged on the following:

  • Demonstrated commitment and interest in cardiac arrest, CPR and resuscitation care
  • Applicant’s potential to make an impact in out-of-hospital resuscitation care and encourage dissemination of the latest science into EMS, as evidenced by appropriate position in EMS agency and prior accomplishments
  • Applicant’s record of EMS accomplishment more generally, as evidenced in CV by length and type of service, awards and citations, etc.

Contacting the judging panel, including but not limited to phone calls, emails, social media messages, or any other form of communication, before submitting your application or during the review process will result in disqualification.

Timeline

  • August 21, 2026, 6 p.m. (CT) – Deadline to apply for the award in the Council Awards Application System. This deadline will not be extended.
  • September 2026 – Applicants are notified of their award status (selected or not selected).

Required Documents

Electronic submission through the Council Awards Application System is required. Hard copies of any part of the application cannot be accepted.

The application file should contain the following documents in PDF format:

  • Curriculum Vitae / or resume
  • A one‑page letter from your employer or manager confirming how attending the symposium will benefit your career. The letter must verify that you are a full‑time EMS employee and that you do not hold an MD or DO degree. The author may also include details about your interest in, or involvement with, resuscitation or CPR‑related activities.

How to Apply/Submit a Nomination

Visit the Council Awards Application System to complete an application.

A username and password previously set up through online profile registration at Professional Heart Daily (PHD) will be necessary to access the Application System. If you have not created an online profile yet, please visit Professional Heart Daily to create an online profile before accessing the Council Awards Application System.

  1. Click the link for the Council Awards Application System.
  2. Sign in with your Professional Heart Daily username and password.
  3. Follow these instructions to set up your profile in ProposalCentral. Setting up your ProposalCentral profile will only need to be done the first time you login to apply for an American Heart Association Council Awards. Please note that the grant maker named American Heart Association is for AHA Research Awards and is a separate log in.
  4. To apply for award, follow these steps:
    • Create New Proposal. Start by selecting "Create New Proposal."
    • Filter by Grant Maker: Choose "American Heart Association Council Awards."
    • Select Program: From the Programs list, select "Resuscitation Science Symposium 3CPR EMS Travel Stipends".
    • Apply Now: Click the "Apply Now" button.
    • Choose Award: Within the application, select the award.

Each winner will receive:

  • $1,000 travel stipend
  • Complimentary registration to the Resuscitation Science Symposium.
  • One ticket to the 3CPR Council Reception.
