3rd Year Medical Student

Juan Medina-Echeverria is a self-described “very non-traditional” 2nd Year Medical Student at Chicago Medical School. A parent with 2 kids (Sophia and Giovanni) and married to his supportive wife, Victoria, Juan is a product of a first-generation immigrant household and was born and raised in the SF/Bay Area, CA. Juan is the first in his family in higher education and attended community college and later graduated from UC Berkeley with Honors, with a degree in Public Health/Epidemiology. Before Medical School, Juan worked as a nurse in the emergency room, urgent care, and ambulatory surgery center at Sutter Health, in California. Currently Juan, is the Class President, Co-President of the Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA), and part of the Diversity Advisory Council. In addition, with the help of 5 other medical students, he pioneered the first mini medical school for 4th/5th graders from underserved areas in north Chicago and exposed them to medical education. Furthermore, this past summer Juan did a Medical Summer Research Internship at Mayo Clinic Orthopedics Surgery Department and became an Nth Dimensions Scholar as well. Lastly, in his spare time, Juan loves to spend time with his family, BBQ, travel, and go for a long-distance run.
