Cristhian Gutierrez Huerta is a native of Tulare, California and is currently a fourth-year MD/PhD student at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW). He studied Applied Mathematics and Biological Sciences at the University of California, Merced. After graduating, he completed a post-baccalaureate research fellowship at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) in Bethesda, Maryland. There, Cristhian worked under Drs. Tiffany Powell-Wiley and Yvonne Baumer to better understand the biological mechanisms of how social determinants of health alter immune cell function.
Now, Cristhian is enrolled in the graduate Physiology program at MCW and works under Dr. Andreas Beyer investigating the role of DRP1 in the endothelial microvasculature. Cristhian is an aspiring physician-scientist who is passionate about cardiology, health disparities, and translational research.
