Daniel Chanelo is a second-year osteopathic medical student at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine – South Georgia Campus, where he serves as Class Chair and President of the Cardiology Interest Group. He also holds leadership roles as Treasurer of the Latino Medical Student Association, National Liaison for the Student Osteopathic Internal Medicine Association and Student Ambassador for PCOM Admissions.

Originally from Florida, Daniel’s academic journey has been shaped by perseverance, leadership, and a deep commitment to advancing cardiovascular health equity. He earned a dual baccalaureate degree in Biomedical Sciences and Public Health from the University of South Florida, followed by graduate training in Biomedical Sciences and Health Professions at Nova Southeastern University.

His academic foundation and passion for cardiology led him to pursue research in cardiovascular genetics, where he investigated population-specific genetic risk factors for cardiac arrhythmias using the NIH All of Us Research Program. At PCOM Research Day 2025, Daniel was selected as a podium speaker for his project, Mapping Genetic Risk Factors for Cardiac Arrhythmias. He also presented a cadaveric case study on renal artery variation, emphasizing its anatomical and surgical relevance in clinical education.

Beyond research, Daniel actively participates in community health fairs, CPR training for Spanish-speaking farmworkers, and participated this summer in mentorship through PCOM’s Opportunity Academy, where he guided local high school students exploring careers in medicine. His leadership and dedication to service have earned him the Mason W. Pressly and Oscar John Snyder Scholarship and the Volunteer Community Service Award.

Guided by his Hispanic heritage and commitment to equitable care, Daniel aspires to a career in cardiology that integrates clinical practice, mentorship, and community engagement. He strives to further unite research, advocacy, and culturally competent care to advance cardiovascular health equity nationwide.
