Jose Lara Sanchez
MD
The University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine
Jose Lara Sanchez, originally from Veracruz, Mexico, moved to the United States at the age of four and grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. His educational journey has been marked by hard work and determination, as he supported himself through college by working as a server, bartender, sommelier, and surgical technologist. These diverse experiences not only ignited his passion for medicine but also strengthened his commitment to increasing representation in healthcare, particularly for the Latinx community. Currently a second-year medical student at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, Jose is deeply engaged in exploring the intersection of medicine and diversity. He is especially passionate about Latinx health and medical education, advocating for initiatives that promote greater representation and accessibility within the medical field. As Jose progresses through his medical training, he is considering pursuing surgical residency, though he is still exploring which specialty best aligns with his interests and skills. Outside of his academic life, Jose is married and enjoys the companionship of his four pets, who bring joy and balance to his life. He remains committed to making a positive impact in the medical community and inspiring future generations of underrepresented individuals in medicine.
