His early research interests were in plastic surgery, particularly breast reconstruction for cancer patients, conducted as a Remote Clinical Outcomes Research Scholar at the University of Pittsburgh under Dr. Carolyn de la Cruz. He has also contributed to multiple projects on craniofacial traumas and burns at the University of Puerto Rico. Currently, his research interests focus on interventional cardiology and electrophysiology. Guillermo has actively served his community as a youth leader in a local church in Puerto Rico and has volunteered in multiple clinics serving Latino patients across various specialties, including plastic surgery, internal medicine, and orthopedics. He is also a member of Medical Students Pro Education, where he mentors high school and undergraduate students interested in medicine and draws on his experience as a member of the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine Admissions Committee to guide students toward medicine. As a member of the Gold Humanism Honor Society, Guillermo is committed to serving all patients with empathy, respect, and cultural competence, paying particular attention to the social determinants of health. He aspires to mentor future Hispanic students who are interested in medicine and serve diverse communities as a physician. In his free time, he enjoys padel, pickleball, beach tennis, and tennis.
