Jonathan Elmer, MD, MS, FAHA, is Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine, Critical Care Medicine and Neurology at the University of Pittsburgh. He earned his BA in biochemistry from Swarthmore College, his MD from Mount Sinai School of Medicine and completed his residency in emergency medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital/Brigham and Women’s Hospital program, where he served as Chief Resident. He then completed fellowships in Critical Care and Neurocritical Care and earned a master’s in clinical research at the University of Pittsburgh.

Dr. Elmer’s research focuses on improving outcomes after cardiac arrest through precision medicine, optimizing systems of post-arrest care and advanced analysis of continuous physiological data. He is PI on multiple NIH- and federally funded projects. An engaged member of the American Heart Association since 2013, Dr. Elmer is a Fellow of the American Heart Association, was Vice Chair of the 2025 Emergency Cardiovascular Care Guidelines Ethics Chapter, chaired the 3CPR Early Career Committee and led multiple American Heart Association scientific statements and guidelines updates.
