3CPR Mid-Career Achievement Award and Lecture

To qualify for this award, you must meet the following deadlines:

  • June 8, 2026 – Deadline to have an active American Heart Association professional membership.
  • June 10, 2026, 6 p.m. (CDT) – Deadline to apply for this award in the Council Awards Application System.

The 3CPR Mid-Career Achievement Award and Lecture recognizes a mid-career investigator active in cardiovascular research for specific career endeavors and achievements that made a significant impact on the field of cardiopulmonary care. The award also may honor those who have helped further the mission of the 3CPR Council and the American Heart Association.

The 3CPR Mid-Career Award and Lecture will alternate between Scientific Sessions and the Resuscitation Science Symposium each year. On odd years, the 3CPR Mid-Career Award and Lecture will be presented at the Resuscitation Science Symposium and will feature resuscitation science. On even years, the 3CPR Mid-Career Achievement Award and Lecture will be presented at Scientific Sessions and will feature critical care or cardio-pulmonary science.

Selection

The 3CPR Nominating Committee will review nominations submitted by council members through the Council Awards Application System. Nominees will be judged on both their impact on the field of cardiopulmonary, critical care, pulmonary or resuscitation science and contribution to the mission of the 3CPR Council and the American Heart Association. Self-nominations are accepted.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Nominees for the award must be members of the Council on Cardiopulmonary, Critical Care, Pulmonary & Resuscitation (3CPR) at the time of application. If you need to become an American Heart Association Professional Member, you should do so one week prior to the application submission deadline for your member account to be processed in time for the application submission deadline.   • Eligible candidates include PhDs and or MDs who are still within 5-20 years of their professional term. Full professors are ineligible to apply.
  • There are no citizenship requirements.
  • Previous winners of this award are not eligible to reapply for the award in subsequent years.
  • Each recipient of American Heart Association council-sponsored awards, regardless of award category, is eligible to receive only one council-sponsored award each year per American Heart Association scientific meeting.
  • Members of the 3CPR Nominating Committee are not eligible to be nominated or selected for the award.
  • Candidates applying for this award may NOT apply to the Cournand & Comroe Early Career Investigator Award or the 3CPR Max Harry Weil Early Career Award for Resuscitation Science in the same year.

Current members of the 3CPR Leadership Committee and the 3CPR Nominating Committee are not eligible to apply for or be nominated for the award.

How to Apply or Submit a Nomination

Visit the Council Awards Application System to complete an application.

A Professional Heart Daily (PHD) username and password are required to access the system. If you are creating a PHD profile for the first time, please register using your Professional Membership ID number.

Membership Requirement

Professional Membership with the American Heart Association and affiliation with the Scienitfic Council sponsoring the award is required. Please allow 3–5 days for processing—do not wait until the deadline to Join or Renew.

  2. Sign in with your Professional Heart Daily username and password.
  3. Follow these instructions to set up your profile in ProposalCentral. Setting up your ProposalCentral profile will only need to be done the first time you log in to apply for an American Heart Association Council Awards.

    Note: The grant maker named “American Heart Association” in ProposalCentral refers to Research Awards and is a separate funder. Council Awards are listed under American Heart Association Council Awards.

  4. Start Your Application:
    • Select Create New Proposal.
    • Filter by Grant Maker: Choose American Heart Association Council Awards.
    • From the Programs list, select: Mid-Career Achievement Awards and Lectures.
    • Click the Apply Now button.
    • Within the application, select the award.

Prize

The winner of the 3CPR Mid-Career Achievement Award and Lecture will present a lecture on a topic of his or her choice. The presentation of this award lecture will alternate between ReSS (odd years) and Scientific Sessions (even years).

The honoree will also receive the following:

  • An engraved plaque
  • A $1,000 honorarium
  • Complimentary registration to either Scientific Sessions or the Resuscitation Science Symposium depending on which meeting is hosting the lecture session.
  • Two (2) complimentary tickets to the 3CPR Council Reception. Attendance at the reception is required.
