Programs for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention

  • With more than 130 million Americans employed across the United States, workplaces provide an important environment for cardiovascular disease (CVD) and stroke prevention activities.
  • Workplace wellness programs are a central strategy to prevent the major shared risk factors for CVD and stroke including tobacco use, physical inactivity, obesity, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and diabetes. 
  • This paper provides background on the regulatory environment and the AHA’s position on the use of financial incentives within employer-based health insurance and worksite wellness programs for current discussions on Capitol Hill around health reform.
