Jorge Kizer, MD, MSc is Professor of Medicine, Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of California San Francisco. A native of Caracas, Venezuela, he spent part of his childhood in New York City, ultimately returning to the U.S. to pursue his university studies.

Dr. Kizer received a medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania and pursued his medicine residency at Brigham and Women's Hospital. After earning a Master of Science in epidemiology from Harvard, he completed his fellowship in cardiovascular diseases at Penn. Prior to his current academic positions in San Francisco, he held appointments at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Weill Cornell Medical College.

Dr. Kizer is a cardiologist and population scientist whose research focus is on the interplay between obesity, aging, and inflammation and the development of metabolic dysregulation and cardiovascular disease, with a particular interest in HIV and vulnerable populations. His work has been funded by the AHA and NIH, and he has published over 300 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals. As an investigator in the Hispanic Community Health Study / Study of Latinos, Dr. Kizer is broadening his efforts to improve the health of all Americans, a goal that he seeks to advance further through his involvement in NHLCC.
