Laura L. Hayman, PhD, MSN, FAAN, FAHA, FPCNA, FSBM, is professor in the Department of Nursing, Manning College of Nursing and Health Sciences, UMass Boston. She also is an Adjunct Professor in the Division of Preventive and Behavioral Medicine, and the Department of Population and Quantitative Health Sciences, UMass Chan Medical School.
For over 30-plus years, Dr. Hayman has mentored undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students in nursing and other disciplines (nationally and globally) as well as post-doctoral fellows and faculty. Conceptualized within a socio-ecological framework and conducted with faculty and students from nursing and other disciplines, her research and scholarship have focused on prevention of obesity and cardiometabolic conditions across the life course with emphasis on children, adolescents and emerging adults from diverse populations.
Her approximately 250 authored and co-authored publications have included her mentees and have been published in nursing and cross-disciplinary venues, including Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing, European Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing, Circulation, Journal of American College of Cardiology and Translational Behavioral Medicine.
Dr. Hayman has been an active member of the American Heart Association for several decades and served in leadership roles within the Council of Cardiovascular and Stroke Nursing, the Young Hearts Council and EPI/Lifestyle Council. She continues to participate as co-author on American Heart Association scientific statements and advisories. “Mentoring the next generation of nurses and cross-disciplinary scientists, clinicians, educators and advocates for the health of the public is critically important,” noted Dr. Hayman.
