Dr. Thiago Bruder received his PhD in Pharmacology from the University of São Paulo (USP) — Ribeirão Preto, Brazil, under the mentorship of Dr. Rita C. Tostes. During his PhD training, he completed research internships at the University of Ottawa with Dr. Rhian M. Touyz and at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Dr. Nicholas Sibinga’s lab. His doctoral work focused on the impact of statins and the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system in Type 2 diabetes.

For his postdoctoral training, Dr. Bruder joined the lab of Dr. Eric J. Belin de Chantemele at Augusta University, where he investigated the role of adipose tissue in the regulation of vascular tone and blood pressure. In 2019, he was appointed Assistant Professor at the University of Pittsburgh, where he established his independent research program. In 2024, he joined the University of South Alabama to continue his research and mentor the next generation of cardiovascular scientists.

Since his undergraduate studies, Dr. Bruder has been dedicated to understanding the molecular and cellular mechanisms driving vascular injury in cardiometabolic diseases and hypertension. His current research focuses on the autocrine and paracrine roles of endothelial cells in regulating vascular biology, immune activation, and blood pressure control.

Dr. Bruder has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications in leading journals such as Circulation and Hypertension and has received continuous funding from the American Heart Association and the National Institutes of Health. He is also a Fellow of the American Heart Association.
