Mary G. Sorci-Thomas, PhD, FAHA, is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Clinical Nutrition, and Associate Director of the Cardiovascular Research Center at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW). She also serves as a Co-Director of the CVRC T32 Training Grant and Associate Faculty in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology.
Dr. Sorci-Thomas received her PhD in biochemistry at the Bowman Gray School of Medicine of Wake Forest University, after which she was awarded a National Research Service Award Fellowship from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institutes of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to train at the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
After completing her postdoctoral training, she started her research lab at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, where she became a tenured Professor of Pathology and Biochemistry and participated as a Project Leader on an NHLBI Program Project focused on Atherosclerosis and Lipoprotein Metabolism for over 20 years.
In 2015, Dr. Sorci-Thomas joined the Department of Medicine at MCW, where she focused her research on obesity, diabetes and cardiometabolic health. Dr. Sorci-Thomas currently serves as a Senior Associate Editor for the journal Atherosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology and for 39 years has been continuously funded by the NIH.
Throughout her career, Dr. Sorci-Thomas has been a fervent advocate and volunteer for the American Heart Association, beginning with her receipt of a pre-doctoral American Heart Association fellowship grant. She also has served on numerous American Heart Association National and Council committees, including Chair of the Council on Atherosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology from 2016-20.
