Dr. Nisha Bansal is a professor and the holder of the Arthur Stach Family Endowed Professorship in the Division of Nephrology at the University of Washington (UW). 

She is also an investigator in the Kidney Research Institute, director of Nephrology Clinical and Research Education and director of the Kidney-Heart Service at UW.

Dr. Bansal attended Brown University, then got her medical degree at the University of Connecticut and internship and residency in internal medicine at Tufts Medical Center. She also completed a nephrology fellowship at UCSF. 

Dr. Bansal’s continuously NIH-funded research program consists of clinical, patient-oriented studies to understand the pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease and hypertension in patients with kidney disease.

She has published more than 200 papers in high impact general medicine, cardiology and nephrology journals. Her work has helped inform national and international guidelines.

Dr. Bansal has been active on numerous AHA and American Society of Nephrology national committees and is a standing member of the NIH study section. Her work has led to national recognition including induction into the American Society of Clinical Investigation and receipt of the American Society of Nephrology Distinguished Researcher Award.

Dr. Bansal is a passionate mentor, particularly for women in medicine and science. She is an active mentor for students, residents and fellows locally and across the country; she’s received awards for her mentorship.
