Anna Strömberg is a professor of nursing and the vice provost for research at the medical faculty at Linköping University in Sweden. She is also a heart failure nurse specialist at Linköping University hospital. Her research focuses on developing interventions for rehabilitation and psycho-educational support to people with long-term cardiac illness and their families.

At present, her research studies focus on evaluating and implementing e-health tools to support self-care and involves:

  • Interventions using tele-rehabilitation such as tele-yoga and exergaming to improve physical activity in vulnerable and frail patients with cardiac disease
  • Evaluations of different types of multidisciplinary disease management programs
  • Interventions to support family members/caregivers using e-health
  • Development of patient reported outcome measures to assess self-care, quality of life, perceived control, symptoms, bodily concerns, continuity of care and participation in care

Professor Strömberg has supervised and examined numerous PhD students and supervised and mentored many postdocs. She has published more than 300 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals, including research articles, systematic reviews, state-of-the-art papers, editorials and international guidelines.

She has lengthy experience in international research collaboration and mentorship working with many researchers in the U.S., Europe, Asia and Australia.

She was a founding member of the Council on Cardiovascular Nursing of the European Society of Cardiology and was very active in the early years establishing the collaboration between nursing researchers from ESC and the American Heart Association. Over the past 20 years she has been involved with the AHA in many different roles.
