The Dickinson W. Richards Memorial Lecture was established in 1973 in honor of Dr. Richards, who shared the Nobel Prize with Drs. Andre Cournand and Werner Forssman in 1956 for work leading to a practical method of cardiac catherizaton. Dr. Richards served as an associate editor of the AHA journal Circulation during the 1950's.
The Richards Memorial Lecture is presented annually at the American Heart Association's Scientific Sessions. Honorees are selected by the Council on Cardiopulmonary, Critical Care, Perioperative and Resuscitation (3CPR) leadership and are invited to present a lecture on a topic of their choice.
