About the Cover

The binding interactions between thrombin and antithrombin (AT). Instead of the stable electrostatic interactions between the positive Arg596 and Lys599 of thrombin and the negative charges on Glu264 and Asn265 of AT, the Arg541 of thrombin only dynamically contributes to the binding through weak hydrogen bond with its backbone. Short-Term Exposure to Waterpipe/Hookah Smoke Triggers a Hyperactive Platelet Activation State and Increases the Risk of Thrombogenesis
Ahmed B. Alarabi, Zubair A. Karim, Jean E. Montes Ramirez, Keziah R. Hernandez, Patricia A. Lozano, José O. Rivera, Fatima Z. Alshbool , Fadi T. Khasawneh

Editor's Note:
This article reports that waterpipe exposure to mice modulates hemostasis and increases the risk of thrombosis. This harmful effect is associated with a state of platelet hyperactivity induced by waterpipe.

PTEN protects against Angiotensin II-induced pathological vascular fibrosis and remodeling

Systemic PTEN elevation protects against pathological vascular remodeling, fibrosis and inflammation with protection predominantly conveyed by vascular SMCs; thus, targeting PTEN represents a novel approach for fibrotic diseases.
