This article reports immunomodulatory properties of hypoxia-induced mitogenic factor (HIMF) in pulmonary hypertension pathogenesis. In HIMF-induced pulmonary hypertension, HMGB1 (the high-mobility group box 1) signaling contributes to endothelial cell and smooth muscle cell crosstalk.
