Mid Career Award for Research Excellence

The Council on Hypertension is calling for nominations for the Mid Career Award for Research Excellence Feb. 27–June 19, 2017.

This program recognizes a mid-career investigator active in hypertension or cardiovascular research. Candidates include PhDs and/or MDs who are still within 10 years after their first faculty appointment, as of the award application date.

A winner will be chosen to present a lecture at the AHA Council on Hypertension American Society of Hypertension Joint Scientific Sessions 2017 and invited to present a lecture at the British Hypertension Society the following year.

Award Information/Eligibility Criteria

Applications will be judged on the following criteria submitted through the Council Awards System. The Council on Hypertension Awards Committee will select the winner based off of the following criteria:

  • All applicants must be members of the AHA/ASA at any level by the time of application submission. If you need to become an AHA/ASA Professional Member, you should do so before submitting your abstract and award application materials. Join or renew today
  • Candidates include PhDs and/or MDs who are still within 10 years after their first faculty appointment, as of the award application date.
  • Nominee’s curriculum vitae and bibliography
  • A signed letter of nomination from the sponsor and at least one additional supporting letter. The letters should clearly articulate the major contributions of the nominee to the field of hypertension.
  • A candidate may be nominated an unlimited number of times by different individuals in the same year. The Awards Committee will assess the candidates’ backgrounds, accomplishments and overall contributions to the field of hypertension.

How to Apply/Required Documents

Applications will be judged on the following criteria submitted through the Council Awards System. The Council on Hypertension Awards Committee will select the winner based off of the following criteria: 

  • Curriculum Vitae, including bibliography. 
  • A letter of nomination and one additional letter of support from a Council on Hypertension member detailing overall contributions of the applicant to hypertension and cardiovascular disease.
  • AHA membership at any level is required by the candidate by the time the award materials are submitted.

Prize

The award will be presented at the Council on Hypertension Awards Luncheon at the conference. The awardee will receive the following:

  • A plaque and $1,000 honoraria.
  • Travel reimbursement to the conference (up to $1,200).
  • Will be invited to present a lecture at the British Hypertension Society the following year.
  • Travel reimbursement to the British Hypertension Society conference up to $2,500.
