Irvine H. Page Young Investigator Research Award

Sponsored by the Council on Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology

The Irvine H. Page Young Investigator Research Award is open to new investigators in arteriosclerosis and vascular biology. The award recognizes investigators in the formative years of their careers who have the potential to become future leaders in cardiovascular research

Criteria

  • Applicants must be a member of the American Heart Association (membership number required to complete award application).
  • Persons with doctoral degrees are eligible for 10 years following receipt of their terminal degree. For persons with medical degrees, clinical training is not included in the number of years noted.
  • Applicants must have sustained research effort in any area related to arteriosclerosis or vascular biology as evidenced by at least one prior peer-reviewed manuscript in the field.
  • Finalists from previous years are eligible but must submit a manuscript that is different than the prior submission.
  • There are no citizenship requirements.

Application Requirements

  • Applicants must submit an abstract describing new, unpublished work in the field of arteriosclerosis or vascular biology to ATVB|PVD 2018 Scientific Sessions.
  • A single manuscript, either unpublished or accepted for publication after Jan.1, 2017, is required as part of the application. The manuscript may be from a project distinct from the abstract submitted to ATVB|PVD 2018.
  • Applicants may also apply for the Brinkhous Prize, however, a different abstract and manuscript must be submitted for each award application. The applicant can be a finalist for only one award.

Judging Criteria

The finalists will present their research results during a special session at the ATVB|PVD 2018 Scientific Sessions in San Francisco, Calif.

The applicant will be assessed on:

  • The quality and originality of the submitted manuscript
  • The quality of the oral presentation and response to questions
  • Publication and funding record
  • Service to the scientific community

Prize

The first-prize winner will receive an engraved plaque and $1,000, plus a $500 stipend to defray travel costs.  Other finalists will each receive a plaque and a $500 travel stipend.

How to Apply

The applicant must:
  1. Submit an original abstract to the ATVB|PVD 2018 Scientific Sessions. The abstract must be in accordance with the rules and regulations for submitting abstracts and must have been submitted by the abstract submission deadline.  Submission dates are November 1, 2017 through January 10, 2018.
  2. Select Page Award during the abstract submission process.

    • A manuscript that is either unpublished or accepted for publication after Jan. 1, 2017.
    • A complete curriculum vitae, including bibliography, and clear documentation demonstrating that the applicant received their terminal doctoral degree in the previous 10 years.
